What can an RAF pilot teach us about safe cycling

A view of a motorbike as seen from a car

My favourite “Today I learned” of 2012 came when I received an email from John Sullivan of the Royal Air Force. The article showed why drivers can so easily miss a cyclist, as they are scanning the road for oncoming traffic. It also gave some incredibly useful tips, such as the importance of using a bike light, even during the daytime.

An angry motorist pointing their finger at a camera

Following the BBC documentary titled “The War on Britain’s Roads” I added an article discussing why if there ever was a war, the car would be winning by a long margin. The article dived in to the documentary and explained why everything from transport expenditure, to road planning favours the car and ignores the bike.

Hi Andreas, have really enjoyed your blog in 2012, was very informative and useful for me as a relative new cyclist.

Looking forward to more great articles and insightful reviews for the new year.

Hey Andreas, Good job in 2012! Started reading your blog this year or late 2011. Multiple articles on equipment, maintenance and apparel that have been very helpful. As a Yank, it is fun to read about bicycling in London and your advocacy for it. We have our red-neck drivers over here, too, but some of yours are really rabid! Re: cyclehatred on twitter. Looking forward to coming to London one day and trying it out, keep up the good work. Joe
