Ding Day 2009 – spread the cycling joy!

Andreas · Aug 17, 2009 · 3 Comments

Ding day logo with bicycle bell on a green backgroundIsn’t it nice when another cyclist rings their bell when they see you? Makes it feel like more of a community right?

Well that’s the idea behind Ding Day 2009 when you see another cyclist you ring your bell to say hello.

It is happening right here in our wonderful city of London and everyone is welcome to take part. So stick this date in your calendar now – 9th of September – and don’t be left out the loop when other cyclists keep ringing their bells at each other!

Its a fantastic idea that will help build a stronger cycling community in London in a very fun way. The only danger to this is that people may think your ringing your bell for other reasons such as a Joey from Friends-esque “How you doin?”

Well, comparing that ( bicycle ring ) with car horns it is definitely a millions times better. Its like music to the ear. The interesting thing is no matter how loud it is, you do not feel agitated nor offended. That is something you can’t say for car horns. May be car manufacturer should have horns with a different beat to express driver’s intent differently. I may be far, but I sure can hear your ring or ding.
