Top 50 cycling blogs 2010

top50cyclingblogs The past 24 hours have been completely consumed by putting together this list! Have I missed you out?

Unfortunately a couple of blogs that I absolutely love didn’t make it into the top 50 this time. This is mainly due to the number of new entries. If you get some time checkout Bike Noob, Treadly and An Adventure Called Bicycling. There are plenty more blogs that I love and I follow but I have to draw the line somewhere.

If your blog was not included then please let me know about it and I’ll add it to the list of blogs I’m considering for the next update.

How did I pick top 50?

I visit every single cycling blog I’ve ever heard of and I note down certain things such as the number of comments in the last 5 posts (excluding most recent post), Alexa rank and Google inlinks.

Then each of the attributes gets a score, it is normalised and an average is calculated. It basically involves a lot of Excel formulas and plenty of data checking!

I also have a few criteria’s such as: the blogs have to be active and not aimed solely at selling stuff.

Any more interesting stats?

  • Highest Alexa rank: Bike 198
  • Highest number of comments: Bike Snob NYC

      • cosmo 12/05/2010 at 11:28 pm #

        (Thanks for the shout-out, Al)

  18. Dottie 20/04/2010 at 4:08 am #

Great list! I’m glad to be on it. My two favorites, Lovely Bicycle and Girls & Bicycles, aren’t up there, but anyone interested in lovely bicycles and girls/women who ride bikes should check them out 🙂

Congrats Dottie, will consider the blogs you mentioned for next years

It’s new and not hugely followed, but I really enjoy reading

  20. Rob Shepherd 20/04/2010 at 6:09 am #

    • Andreas 20/04/2010 at 9:24 am #

Silly of me to miss that one out. Thanks for reminder, have added to the list of blogs to consider next time

  21. Dottie 20/04/2010 at 2:26 pm #

Oh also, Bikes and the City. I can’t even name a couple of my favorites without thinking of more and more that I love. So I commend you on all the work this list must have taken.

  22. Dave Moulton 20/04/2010 at 2:28 pm #

I quit posting updates on my blog in August 2008, six months later I started up again. I lost much of my following, and have yet to regain the numbers back.
Inclusion on your list helps and is much appreciated.

  23. Ol 20/04/2010 at 2:58 pm #

Number 39! Wow, thanks Andreas. But 20 for London Cyclist?

    You’re too modest!

    • Andreas 20/04/2010 at 4:05 pm #

I totally should have boosted my stats shouldn’t I? Corrected your blog to Tredz rather than Trendz – makes much more sense that way round!

  24. Kent Peterson 20/04/2010 at 4:52 pm #

Glad to be in such great company for a second year. I hope everybody is having the best kinds of cycling adventures.

  26. MarkA 20/04/2010 at 9:42 pm #

Hey Andreas, just wanted to thank you formally for adding me to the list, as the new boy on here I’m honoured to be in such great company, and looking forward to ranking higher next year 😉

Well done on a great list of diverse blogs, it must have taken you ages so a big thumbs up from me.

    • Andreas 21/04/2010 at 8:00 am #

No worries Mark, happy to send visitors your way! See you already got some nice feedback on Twitter 🙂

  27. Herb 21/04/2010 at 5:04 am #

We made the top 50! I’m honoured to share the same page with other venerable blogs. One commenter of ours just mentioned this list. I’m too wrapped up in T.O. cycling politics right now to look much further.

Keep an eye on our site for updates on Bixi Toronto (going to be approved by City Council here next month, I hope), bike lanes on University and Jarvis, Bike Month events, and other such info.

  28. Herb 21/04/2010 at 5:05 am #

One more thing: tweets come from @biketo (though it’s basically re-tweeting the site).

  29. meligrosa 21/04/2010 at 8:25 am #

many of my fellow bloggy friends are listed. ride on!! 😀

  30. carfree American 21/04/2010 at 1:15 pm #

I would like to see more of these blogs be more focused on living the carfree or carlite lifesyle–some tend to just focus on pretty pictures of bicycles- -Ithink we all have a responsibilty to promote cycling itself,ie get a bike and ride itfor transportation, but not -just sit and look at it. A President of a bike club asked me what I do to promote cycling? “I ride my bike!” I told her. Great list and thank you for putting it together!

  31. wvcycling 21/04/2010 at 11:43 pm #

Glad to see Kent’s Bike Blog and the Cozy on there. Love those two (and many of the others~)

Surprised RKP or BKW are not on there 😮

  32. Alicia 25/04/2010 at 7:50 am #

Hello! 🙂 One more suggestion… Bikefag. His writing is fabulous.

  33. Tim 26/04/2010 at 6:49 pm #

Do you have a category for worst 50?

  34. Andreas 26/04/2010 at 10:36 pm #

Nop but if you wish to put that together be my guest!!

  35. Jonathan Pait 28/04/2010 at 11:53 pm #

I’d like to know how my blog would rate on your list… How far down would it be?

  36. Shelly 29/04/2010 at 5:06 am #

Is it okay to do an update via the comments field here? ok. Here goes…

RidingPretty is on twitter and has been for awhile. I finally figured out today that I’d put some lock /protection thingy on it.
So it’s all good to go now twitter wise 🙂

  37. Baz 29/04/2010 at 4:21 pm #

BTW, The Washingmachine Post is on twitter – he’s @twmp

  38. Clarence Eckerson 01/05/2010 at 5:21 am #

This blog really missed the boat in many ways. With our films, Streetfilms have influenced the decision-making in many major cities the last four years. Our films have been watched nearly 3 million times and have played in hundreds of festivals and showings, and our bicycling films on Bogota’s Ciclovia in 2007 (watched over 200,000 times on various media interfaces) and Physically Separated Bike Paths (almost 200,000) have clearly had a huge influence in persuading and allowing cities all across the U.S. to invest in those kind of biking amenities.

  39. Clarence Eckerson 01/05/2010 at 5:28 am #

Although we could technically be called a vlog, so…

  40. Will 02/05/2010 at 3:59 pm #

Well I am sad that i dropped out of top 50 😉

My wife promises to comment more.

  41. Jo 03/05/2010 at 1:56 am #

When you get to the top 1000, you can consider Cycle Fun Montreal

  42. Julian / Totcycle 06/05/2010 at 9:16 pm #

Thanks, honored to be here, and thanks for the traffic!

I got a used Brompton for my birthday, itchair to follow, and am obsessively devouring old A to B’s, so you can expect more UK-inspired family adventures in the coming year.

  47. Paul Kramer 15/04/2011 at 8:35 pm #

Perhaps I can get an honorable mention since my magazine (which I call an “aggrezine™”) is an aggregation blog posts, repurposed and redesigned in a digital-magazine format. Now on its 13th issue, I’m read by thousands in over 90 countries. Good blogs make good aggrezines. Thanks to all on this list!

I noticed all these blogs are in English. Is there a place or list for international or blogs in other languages?

  49. Chris Curnutt 07/12/2011 at 3:57 pm #
