Re-Cycle is aiming to double the number of bikes it sends to Africa

re-cycle-bikes

I got an email recently from Merlin, the founder of Re~Cycle, a London based charity which sends bicycles to Africa. I thought I’d share it around in case anyone wishes to help out with their project.

At Re~Cycle we have traditionally not called upon our friends and contacts to support our work but we are facing a growth in demand: our African partner projects are calling out for more bicycles and at the same time we have seen a massive growth in the number of people in who want to donate their bicycles to us…we’re in demand!
Please help us meet this demand and double the number of bicycles we send to 10,800 a year.

How you can help

On average it costs us £10 to source, grade, store and pack each bicycle, along with much needed spare parts.

£20 will help us send 2 bicycles and parts
£100 will help us send 10 bicycles and parts
£500 will help us train community members how to repair bicycles – leaving a legacy for the community

Each bike helps up to six people: take for example the rural family with a new bike helping to get produce to market, helping the whole family.

How to donate? Please donate on our Virgin page or find more options on the web site’s donate page.

Or you can volunteer to strip down and pack bikes at Re-cycle’s Colchester HQ. See http://www.re-cycle.org/ or call Derek at 01206 863111.
