Post a picture of your commute

Pedalling into work your experience may vary. Perhaps you just see busy rush hour traffic in the centre of London or maybe you have gorgeous views of the countryside and interesting sights such as the Lots Road Power Station.

One thing is for sure, there must be some interesting sights on your commute!

Don’t worry if it’s just a blurry camera phone picture. Sometimes camera phones capture the most interesting sights.

What bike do you ride on your commute?

On this weeks “Comment Friday” I’d like to hear about what bikes you guys use to commute.

My bike is a Marin Hybrid. I bought it second hand a few years ago and whilst it’s on its last legs now it still serves me well until I have enough money for the next bike purchase. I like it because it rarely requires any maintenance and if needs be it can take on a bit of off-road action.

What bike do you ride around on your commute and where did you get it from?

I’ve always wondered how many miles you guys cover getting to work. What better way to cure my curiosity than a poll. Please include only the actual miles you cover on a bike and not miles covered on the train/bus/helicopter/hover craft. Also tell me the distance in one direction.

Also if you get some time let me know in the comments about any difficulties you have faced on your commute and any tips you have for others. I’m hoping to put together a post soon for commuters doing longer distance rides into work every day.

Cyclists banned from new London railway

UK cyclists are fighting plans to ban bikes from a rail network.

The Crossrail project would see a new underground route built beneath London. But the scheme proposes to forbid any bikes from the central route, and there will be no cycle parking at main stations.

Now the CTC, the UK’s largest cycling members body, has launched a petition against the plans, which are due to be examined by a Parliament Select Committee in the next few months.

Top 6 things we cyclists love to do to annoy drivers

While cycling along and thinking about how annoying drivers are I also had a little think outside the box and thought about how we cyclists must annoy drivers:

Cycling in the middle of the road so they can’t get passed us
Leaning on their car while they are waiting at a traffic light
Cycling two abreast
Skipping a red light – while the poor motorist is sat there waiting for the light just bomb it straight past them. Even better than this is where you stop at the light, get off your bike, walk across the light and then climb back on the bike and cycle off.
Whizzing past cars stuck in traffic
Cycling slowly when there is no room for them to overtake – they must love it!

Those are just some things that must really grind motorists gears about us cyclists! If you have any good ones, post them in a comment!
